The mural was created by Małgorzata Rozenau, a painter and designer associated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. Measuring 55 square metres, Tenderness of Trees ornaments the arched wall of the gallery building on the street corner between ul. 3 Maja and ul. Henryka Sienkiewicza. The mural replaced a black and white work entitled Impossible Fusion by the Italian artist Awer.
The mural is an illustrative story about our relationship with trees, and the need for their proximity in our immediate environment and personal experience; the need to understand and interact with the natural world we are a part of. The work also alludes to the small park across the street and the tree tops whose reflections in the gallery windows combine with the trees in the mural to form a single whole.
This pictorial narrative also contains human element which will be revealed with time – people blending in with the trees, people engrossed in quiet contemplation or embracing the trees for therapeutic purposes. A tree also symbolizes strong roots in a particular place, as well as tight links between nature and culture.
