New paintings by the winner of the 2022 competition for secondary art students.
Two years ago, Maja Sawicka, a student in a class taught by Małgorzata Maciejewska at the Leon Wyczółkowski Art School in Bydgoszcz, was awarded the Grand Prix in the national competition for art school students. Her artwork which received the highest mark in the painting category was entitled “In Front of the House”. The current exhibition at Cafe Club Aquarium features her latest paintings.
The works of the young artist, currently a student of stage design at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts in Poznań, will be presented simultaneously with two other exhibitions in the main halls of the Galeria Bielska BWA. The upper hall will be accommodated for the post-competition exhibition of this year’s 16th National Biennale of Drawing and Painting of Secondary Art School Students, while the lower hall will be used for the presentation of the works of their masters at the exhibition “Artefacts” – the National Exhibition of Works by Secondary Art School Art Teachers.
Agata Ruman, artist, deputy principal of the Julian Fałat State Secondary School of Visual Arts in Bielsko-Biała, organiser of the biennale, and curator of accompanying exhibitions:
Presented in the café club Aquarium, Maja Sawicka’s exhibition will complement the other exhibitions in the BWA halls. It provides an opportunity to appreciate the achievements of the young artist and to observe her creative development. It also constitutes a direct link between the current edition of the biennale and the previous one, allowing space for reflection on its character and allows us to see that it is a competition with a rich tradition.
