Autumn exhibitions: photography and painting

New work of two award winning artists – Sebastian Krok, the winner of the Grand Prix at Bielska Jesień 2017 and Joanna Chudy, a prize winner at the 4th Festival of Visual Arts in Bielsko-Biała in 2018.

How will Sebastian Krok, a Warsaw-based artist and the Grand Prix winner at the 43rd Painting Biennale Bielska Jesień 2017, surprise viewers this time? Will vocal critics of that jury decision two years ago change their minds and begin to appreciate the artist’s consistency in addressing pressing social issues? Will they finally understand  his fundamental and timeless messages  to both the individuals in the paintings and viewers? Will they appreciate Sebastian Krok’s innovative approach or continue to undermine his thematic approach and painting technique?

Galeria Bielska BWA hosts a solo exhibition of the Grand Prix winner. By tradition, it will be held two years after the Painting Biennale. In Sebastian Krok’s own words, his latest project entitled Mental Pearl Harbour provides affirmation of the world perceived from the perspective of a hoodie, a man of the block.

Also on Friday evening, viewers will be able to see Joanna Chudy’s latest photographic project entitled Oblivion. Hidden identity. This solo exhibition has been awarded by Agata Smalcerz, the director of Galeria Bielska BWA, during the 4th Visual Arts Festival, 2018.

“All of the photographs in the cycle Oblivion. Hidden Identity are pervaded by a highly strained quest to uncover what is normally imperceptible, hidden away and inaccessible,” says Weronika Kobylińska-Bunsch in her essay Landscape Biography.
Her work along with other texts devoted to the project and exhibition will appear in the publication entitled Joanna Chudy Oblivion. Hidden Identity which is due out on the day of the vernissage.

The exhibition opens a 6 pm on Friday, 6 Sepember 2019.
